Senate Education Committee Chair Joe Nyutu has faulted the Ministry of Education for scrapping mock examinations for four form candidates saying the decision needs to be reconsidered.
According to the lawmaker, the Ministry’s action, citing cases of school unrest should not hold.
The senator said the mock examinations were crucial in preparing learners for their final exams.
“As a professional teacher, I can say it is not a good thing that we banned them because students used to riot because they didn’t want to do MOCKs. And you know MOCKs are very important. When we ban them because students are going to riot, what are we telling them? They will definitely have to sit for the final exam,” he noted.
The Ministry of Education recently scrapped mock examinations citing it as reasons behind increased cases of school unrest.
Early this month, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang directed all schools to desist from holding any after-school examinations.
On his part, Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo called for collaboration among all education stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse in learning institutions saying the menace is a big threat for the future generations.
Nyutu and Mugo were speaking during the Mathioya constituency Education Day.
