Sarah Cohen calls for fresh probe into Danish billionaire husband’s death
Sarah Cohen through her Lawyer Phillip Murgor is calling for fresh investigations into the murder of her Dutch billionaire husband Tob Cohen.
This follows allegations that former DCI boss George Kinoti may have forced a detective to implicate Court of Appeal Judge Sankale Ole Kantai in the murder.
While addressing the media earlier today, Murgor said that by implicating Kantai, chances are that the DCI may also have implicated his client Sarah Wairimu Cohen, the widow of the late Cohen.
“His theory is that the two of them planned and committed an offense. If it is found he lied about one of the so-called perpetrators, his theory clashes to the ground,” said Murgor.
According to court filings, John Gachomo, a Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, said on the day Cohen was executed, the investigations had revealed that the planning and execution of the murder were directly linked to Judge Kantai and the main suspect in the case Sarah Wairimu, widow of the deceased.
“There is cogent evidence that the judge participated in the planning of the murder of Tob Cohen jointly with Sarah Wairimu Kamotho,” He stated.
In the contentious affidavit, Gachumo said the two did this allegedly to cover up for a fraudulent transaction involving the transfer of shares in one of Cohen’s companies.
However, in scathing revelations in The Star newspaper this morning, Gachumo disowned Kinoti, claiming that he duped him into signing the document that implicated the Judge.
Gachumo further claimed that he wrote to the Attorney General in 2021, recanting the affidavit.
“I can confirm that the contents of the affidavit dated September 27, are neither based on fact nor documents filled from my file held in my office,” he said in his affidavit to the AG.
Tob Cohen’s lawyer Dunstan Omari has however disputed the affidavit saying he and his team were never served with it. He further contends that he has over 11 affidavits from DCI officers supporting Kinoti’s theory of Cohen’s murder.
“We are demanding that affidavit that John Gachumo has sworn to the effect that he is recanting his earlier affidavit,” he said.
The latest twist into the ever-winding search for Cohen’s murder could end in charges against Sarah Wairimu and Kantai being dropped as Murgor argues his client was charged based on fabricated evidence. He also wants Kinoti investigated and prosecuted over claims that he may have fabricated evidence in the case.
“Our client has been charged based on lies and fabricated evidence that has been created under the direction and control of Kinoti,” said Murgor.
Omari has on the other hand questioned whether this is an attempt to let Cohen’s suspected murderers scot-free. “Is this also an attempt to make sure that the killers of Tob Cohen do not face the law,” said Omari.
In March last year, Wairimu failed to persuade the High Court, Constitutional and Human Rights Division, to drop the charges against her.
She argued that the prosecutor wants to deny her the right to inherit the estate of her deceased husband. She said the criminal case is founded on hearsay and built on a malicious investigation process with the view to deny her the right to inherit her matrimonial properties.
