Safaricom appoints director to guide government in digitisation drive
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa has appointed Boniface Mungania as the Director of Public Sector Digital Transformation.
Effective April 1, 2023, Mungania will identify opportunities within the public sector that National and County governments can digitize.
He will also champion and lead the design adoption and implementation of digital transformation initiatives in the public sector.
Prior to his appointment, Mungania was the telco’s acting Chief Financial Services Officer since July 2022. This position will be filled by former KCB director of Corporate Banking Esther Masese after regulatory approval.
President William Ruto’s government is leveraging on more digital services to meet the targeted KES 3.2 trillion annual fiscal revenue.
The president announced that all 5,000 government services will be made accessible on the eCitizen platform for government digital payments this year.
On Tuesday, Ruto chaired his first paperless cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi.
The Cabinet Secretaries secured portable digital devices interconnected and attached to their files, memos and a secure notebook to assist them to take notes in the meeting without leaving the devices.
President Ruto said the digitisation of cabinet meetings was a clear signal that the Government was going digital.
