Ruto scores C, Rigathi D in latest rating
A majority of Kenyans say the country is heading in the wrong direction one year after President William Ruto took power. That’s according to the latest findings from research firm Infotrak, which rates President Ruto’s performance in his first year in office as average, with 53% of Kenyans saying he is taking the country in the wrong direction.
According to the research, President Ruto’s performance has only received an average grade of ‘C’ while the office of the Deputy President occupied by Rigathi Gachagua has received a grade of ‘D’.
Speaking at the launch of the research, Infotrak Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Angela Ambitho said most Kenyans are largely concerned about the high cost of living, unemployment, affordable quality education, agriculture, access to affordable healthcare and corruption.
“It’s very easy to link it to the things that people are concerned about, how do you deal with the cost of living, you came with the mantra and the pedestal of the hustler,” she said.
“In terms of the office of the deputy president, if you put him up against everybody else, he is 47%, which is a D, and he is 14th if you look at him with the rest,” Ambitho added.
In terms of Cabinet, the research has revealed that Home Affairs CS Prof Kithure Kindikii is the best performing Cabinet Secretary (CS) followed by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu while CSs Kipchumba Murkomen, Mithika Linturi and Susan Nakhumicha are tied at number three.
However, the lowest performing Cabinet Secretaries are Rabecca Miano, Simon Chelugui, Prof Njuguna Ndung’u, Florence Bore and the lowest performing is Energy CS Davis Chirchir.
The top performing CSs including half of the cabinet have averaged a C in their performance. However, the other half of the Cabinet with the lowest performance scored a D.
The best performing ministries are Home Affairs and National Administration, Education, Agriculture and two others, while the worst performing ministries are Energy and Petroleum, National Treasury and Economic Planning, East African Community and two others.
The survey was conducted in August and September this year and involved 4000 adults.
