Ruto: I approached Kalonzo, he said he wants to try the opposition
President William Ruto has acknowledged engaging Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka several times as he sought to have him form part of his government.
Speaking during a church service at African Inland Church in Kitui, Ruto stated that if Kalonzo is willing, then he was ready to work with him.
However, Ruto also stated that Kalonzo rejected joining the government and said he would prefer to try the opposition.
“Stephen is my elder brother, if he is ready to work with me, I am ready to work with him,” Ruto said.
“I want you to know that I have sought out Kalonzo and invited him to join me in forming the government. Kalonzo informed me that he wishes to try the opposition. Let him try that first. Hiyo pia ni kazi na tulisema kazi ni kazi,” Ruto added.
Earlier, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua intimated that, despite his apparent leadership role in opposition politics, they would be willing to work with Kalonzo.
Gachagua stated that they had no problem with Kalonzo, but just did not understand him or what he desired.
On Saturday, Kalonzo Musyoka announced that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya intends to form a shadow cabinet to hold President William Ruto’s administration accountable for proper use of public resources.
The cabinet will be established as soon as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya party leader Raila Odinga returns to the nation from his foreign trip in India, according to Musyoka.
Musyoka stated that the shadow cabinet will contain all necessary ministries to monitor the government across all departments, and that the team will also have a budget to help them carry out their duties without financial restraints.
The Wiper leader argued that Ruto’s government should be kept on its toes in order to provide effective services to Kenyans.
