Ruto highlights green investment and sustainable development at 22nd COMESA Summit
President William Ruto has made a notable address at the 22nd Comesa Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Lusaka, Zambia.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, President Ruto highlighted the collective agenda of the region, aimed at benefiting countries and their people.
He praised the visionary leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who has been instrumental in steering COMESA towards greater unity and relevance in Africa.
During the summit, Kenya’s Secretariat and Comesa emphasized the significance of green investment in achieving a zero-carbon global industrial order. The discussions aimed to expedite recovery efforts, enhance resilience, and prioritize sustainable policies. The organization of the summit by Kenya’s Secretariat showcases the country’s progress in pursuing sustainable development goals.
“The aim, of course, is to achieve an overall reduction in emissions, enhance energy and resource efficiency, develop facilities that can withstand extreme climatic pressure, and avert loss of biodiversity and critical ecosystems.”
COMESA, in collaboration with investors and development partners, seeks to mainstream green investment, tap into the trade potential aligned with the United Nations Environment Programme’s Sustainable Development Goals, and meet the growing demand for value-added products. President Ruto emphasizes the importance of value-addition, industrial transformation, and accelerating economic growth to reduce poverty during the 22nd Comesa summit.
