Ruto denounces Raila’s persistent call for IEBC server scrutiny
President William Ruto has hit back at the opposition’s continued demand for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers to be opened for scrutiny, with claims that the servers have always been open.
Speaking during the opening of the Border Police Hospital at Kanyonyoo in Kitui County, Ruto said that the call for the servers to be opened, six months after the election, is an insult to the country’s collective intelligence.
Ruto took on the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, saying that the servers were open during voting, tallying, announcing, and even during the court process.
“For anyone to tell us that they need IEBC servers to be opened at this point in time is to take us for granted. Is to believe that they are fools in Kenya. I want to tell our friends that the servers have always been open, ” he said.
The head of state said that the opposition’s call for server scrutiny is an insult to Kenyans’ collective intelligence and democracy.
“The servers were open during the identification. They were open during the voting. They were open during the posting of the results. They were open during the tallying in BOMAS. They were open when the results were announced. They were open when the matters went to court. The servers were open when the court determined the election. To now pretend and tell us about servers is an insult to our collective intelligence is an insult to our democracy,” he said.
Ruto’s comments come after Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, challenged the IEBC to open the servers following claims by a whistleblower that he won the election.
In January, Raila claimed they have official presidential results, contrary to the one announced by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
“The data released by the whistleblowers is a bombshell that compels every Kenyan of goodwill to ask themselves if indeed we still have a democracy,” the opposition leaders said. The dossier claimed Raila garnered 8,170,355 votes or 57.53 percent of votes cast against President William Ruto’s 5,915,973 votes (41.66 percent of votes cast).”
