Ruto apologises to Eastleigh business community over destruction during Azimio demos
President William Ruto has apologised to the Eastleigh business community following the destruction of businesses during the Opposition protests.
Speaking on Tuesday when he joined the Muslim community for the Iftar dinner at KICC, Nairobi, the President assured the community that the matter has been resolved to Kenya’s benefit.
“Poleni ule rafiki yangu naskikia alikuja huko kwenyu an akaandamana na watu ambao walikuja kuibia nyinyi masimu wakaaribu mali yenu,” Ruto said.
Loosely translated as (I’m sorry, I heard my friend (Raila Odinga) came to your place of business and he demonstrated with people who came to stela your phones and destruct your property)
“Nataka niwahakikishie Mungu ametusaidia hio maneno tumekomesha. Mambo yote tunapeleka Bunge.”
Loose translation: (I want to assure you that God has helped us stop this matter. Everything will be solved in Parliament).
Businesses in Eastleigh are among those in several counties that counted their losses after opposition protests disrupted businesses on Monday, March 27.
Several shops remained closed all day while cases of looting were reported in some regions.
The anti-government protests came to a halt after President Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga agreed to a bi-partisan approach to deal with the issues at hand.
Bot parties have fronted seven-member teams to lead in the bipartisan talks.
Meanwhile, Azimio is set to begin public rallies with the first one scheduled for this coming Sunday at Kamukunji Grounds.
