Former president Daniel Torotich arap Moi’s son, Raymond Moi cast his vote at Rongai, Nakuru county. The Rongai election is the remaining contest in the 2022 general election where independence party KANU is contesting.
UDA party is enjoying a successful run having 8 MPs out of the 11 constituencies in Nakuru county. Paul Chebor vying on a UDA ticket is banking on the party’s popularity to clinch the Rongai MP seat. Chebor is a former MCA making a second stab at the seat.
Raymond Moi has been Rongai’s MP for two terms, hoping to represent the constituency in the 13th parliament. He is currently the only Moi with a chance at an elective seat after Gideon Moi failed to clinch the Baringo senatorial seat. Speaking after casting his vote at Mercy Njeri polling station, Raymond said he is sure of a ‘Raymond win’ based on his development track record.
“I will not win because of my name, but because of my work.”
On the other hand, Paul Chebor referred to as Raymond as ‘Mtoto wa ufalme’, maintaining he is confident in winning as Rongai residents are hustlers.
It is interesting to note, KANU has never lost an election in Rongai constituency since it was cut off from the former Nakuru North constituency.
