Resila Onyango appointed new NPS spokesperson, Shioso promoted
The National Police Service (NPS) has named Dr Resalia Onyango as the new spokesperson replacing Bruno Shioso who has been promoted.
The outgoing spokesperson has been named the new commandant of the National Police Service Training campus in Kiganjo.
Shioso will replace Japhet Koome, who until his nomination by President William Ruto for Inspector General of Police was the commandant at the training campus.
The IG office fell vacant after the IG Hillary Mutyambai resigned citing ill health.
The latest changes are in line with the commitment by the Kenya Kwanza administration to reform the service that has been on the spot over extra-judicial killings and alleged political persecution ahead of the August 9 General Election.
Koome is presenting appearing before the MPs for vetting, and later the joint committee on security will then table a joint report in both Houses to approve his nomination as IG.
Meanwhile, apart from the appointment of Shioso to replace Koome, deputy commandant at the college Philip Ndolo has been recalled to vigilance House while Central Regional Police Commander (RPC) Manase Musyoka has been moved to Nairobi region in the same capacity.
Musyoka will be replacing James Mugera who has since retired after attaining the mandatory retiring age.
Lydia Ligami has been named the new Central RPC while Paul Langat was posted to western as the RPC to replace Peris Muthoni who has retired.
Another change announced by Gabow is that of Catherine Mugwe as the staff officer training at police headquarters.
According to Gabow, although these are normal changes within the service to ensure efficiency in service delivery, they boost operations in the affected areas.
He has indicated that more changes will be effected in the coming months as the new IG assumes office.
The changes were announced on Monday by acting IG Noor Gabow, a day before the vetting of the Inspector General of Police (IG) nominee Japheth Koome by the joint committee on security by the Senate and the National Assembly.
Both President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have poked holes in the manner the service previously conducted its affairs, faulting officers for obeying unlawful orders.
Gabow also disbanded the Special Service Unit (SSU) and this was followed by the arrest of a number of officers over claims of forced disappearance and extra-judicial killings.
The new administration saw the exit of the former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and the appointment of Mohammed Amin following a public recruitment by the National Police Service Commission.
Gachagua announced that there will be a taskforce formed in the next two weeks to address the issues of welfare of the police, including salaries and Housing when he attended the thanksgiving service of the disciplined officers.
