Raila lashes out at the Judiciary, terms their ruling as ‘thuggery’
Raila Odinga has today lashed out at the judiciary over the August 9 poll petition judgment, which was handed on September 5.
Odinga, who was attending Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir’s swearing-in ceremony, claimed that the Judiciary engaged in thuggery and that there would be no need for Kenyans to vote every five years if the judiciary continued making such decisions dictating people’s freedom.
“We have power as the people of this country to reform them (Judiciary) and send them home. We can lead a one million march to the Judiciary to say ‘kwendeni nyumbani’… Shame on the judiciary of this country.” Odinga said.
Raila Odinga continued to state that the Judiciary’s failure to analyze the evidence presented to the Supreme Court by Azimio was unacceptable.
“We will not be cowed. Nyayo tried, but we resisted him. We are not going to allow the Judiciary to become a dictator in this country,” Raila said.
Odinga suggested that the country should do a constitutional review to evaluate what works and what doesn’t.
The Azimio-OKA presidential candidate also hit out at the IEBC, recommending comprehensive reforms.
Pointing towards a way forward for the coalition Mr Odinga said that Azimio-OKA will announce their next steps in their attempts to deepen and enhance Kenya’s democracy after he returned to the nation. Raila jetted back to the country Thursday morning.
On his whereabouts in the last few days, the former Prime Minister said that he and his family had taken a much-needed break in the island of Zanzibar, to recover from the trauma they had suffered.
Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Ali Hassan Joho were also present at the event in Mombasa.
