Protests outside Parliament amid ouster hearing of four IEBC commissioners
Several demonstrators on Monday marched to Parliament Buildings to protest the bid to oust four IEBC commissioners who dissented from the 2022 polls results.
The youth carried placards and chanted in protest while the hearing went on in Parliament.
This comes after Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga
Raila Odinga announced that he would be holding a number of rallies in his home districts to rally support for the four commissioners of the beleaguered electoral agency whose jobs are under threat.
Raila and his team are to hold their first rallies this week, which he and his supporters have dubbed “consultative meetings,” in an effort to get the public’s opinion on the campaign by President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza to expel the four commissioners.
The four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials are Vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera and commissioners Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.
Even so, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee which was hearing the petitions against the four commissioners has adjourned sittings to Tuesday to allow the defence team file a response.
During the morning session, Cherera did not appear in person but was represented by lawyer Apollo Mboya.
