Prosecution drops murder charges against 4 suspects in the killing of LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba
The prosecution has dropped murder charges against four suspects in the macabre killing of LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba. Chiloba’s roommate Jacktone Odhiambo remains to be the sole suspect in the gruesome killing.
Edwin’s mutilated body was discovered in a metallic box days after his disappearance. Police alluded to a possible love triangle as the motive for the killing even as investigations are underway.
Former president Uhuru and his cabinet fo visit Magoha’s family
Retired president Uhuru Kenyatta and his former cabinet will today visit the home of former Education CS George Magoha who died aged 71. Magoha was appointed to the cabinet in Uhuru’s administration after a vigorous vetting process.
“It is unfortunate and painful that we’ve lost my friend Prof George Magoha at a time when his family is mourning his brother,” former President Uhuru eulogised Magoha.
The stern academic administrator will be laid to rest on 11 February 2023, two weeks after his brother Prof. Richard Nyabera was also laid to rest.

Kenyans have a week to submit reviews on the draft Privatisation Bill 2023 which seeks to sell government parastatals without parliament’s approval. The proposed bill seeks to provide a framework for the privatization of government-owned parastatals.
“The comments and/or input or memoranda may be forwarded via post or hand delivered to the Principal Secretary National Treasury and a soft copy emailed to privatisation@treasury.go.ke by February 7,” said Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u in a previous interview.
Pope Francis to visit South Sudan and DR Congo
Pope Francis embarks on his fifth visit to Africa on Tuesday, flying to the Democratic Republic of Congo and then South Sudan to plead for peace in the two violence-plagued nations.
Thousands of well-wishers are expected at Kinshasa’s Ndjili international airport to greet the 86-year-old pontiff’s plane, which is due to land around 3:00 pm local time.
It is the first time since 1985 that a pope has visited DRC, a desperately poor country of close to 100 million people, 40 percent of whom are Catholic.
83 killed in Pakistan mosque blast targeting police
Bodies were still being pulled Tuesday from the wreckage of a mosque blast that targeted police officers in northwestern Pakistan, killing more than 80 people and wounding 150 more.
The attack happened Monday during afternoon worship in the provincial capital of Peshawar, close to areas along the Afghan border where militancy has been steadily rising.
Overnight, at least nine bodies were recovered as rescuers sifted through the rubble of the mosque’s collapsed wall and roof.
“This morning we are going to remove the last part of the collapsed roof so we can recover more bodies, but we are not hopeful of reaching any survivors,” Bilal Ahmad Faizi, a spokesperson for the rescue organisation 1122, told AFP.
