World marks World Radio Day
Every 13 February since 2011, the world marks World Radio Day, a day proclaimed by the Member States of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). For the 12th edition of the World Radio Day UNESCO declared its theme as “Radio and Peace”.
UNESCO writes, “Radio can indeed fuel conflict but in reality, professional radio moderates conflict and/or tensions, preventing their escalation or bringing about reconciliation and reconstruction talks.”
An Italian, Guglielmo Marconi first developed the idea of a radio in the 1890s. The idea took shape in 1895 when he sent a wireless Morse Code message to a source more than a kilometer away. Over the years the same has been modified and improved to radio communication.

World marks International Condom Day
13 February, a day before the much publicised Valentines day, the world celebrates International Condom Day. The day seemingly in a cheeky way reminds people to practice safe sex with their partners.
A group of youth leaders from Kibra will be taking the initiative to spread awareness on HIV prevention and teen pregnancies, especially in the wake of condom shortages in the country. They will be spreading awareness on how young people and community at large can keep safe in FHOK Nairobi Youth Centre in Kibra.
US shoots down another object, this time over Lake Huron
A US warplane shot down another flying object on Sunday, this time over Lake Huron on the US-Canadian border, the fourth in a dramatic series that began with the downing of a suspected Chinese spy balloon a week ago.
Jittery Americans have been watching the skies as the mysterious incursions unfolded against a backdrop of acute tensions with China — although only the first object has so far been attributed to Beijing.
Man City fight back on the field to close in on Arsenal
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted Erling Haaland is a doubt for Wednesday’s top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal after coming off at half-time in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa.
City shrugged off the uncertainty caused by a series of Premier League charges to close to within three points of Arsenal at the top of the table. But victory came at a cost as the Premier League’s leading goalscorer appeared to pick up a thigh injury as he clashed with Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
“Haaland had a knock, he was uncomfortable,” said Guardiola. “At 3-0 we don’t want to take risks.
