President Ruto sacks public health PS Josephine Mburu
President William Ruto has fired Public Health PS Dr Josephine Mburu, suspended Kenya Medical Supplies Authority CEO Terry Ramadhani and kicked out the agency’s entire board over a KES 4 billion mosquito net supply scandal.
The president has also appointed former Housing Principal Secretary and Farmers Party leader Irungu Nyakera as Kemsa board chair.
Further, the board of KEMSA has been reconstituted. With the suspension of Terry Ramadhani, Andrew Mulwa who is the Directorate of Promotive and Preventive Health has been appointed in an acting capacity as KEMSA’s CEO.
These changes stemmed from alleged misappropriation of funds in health programs such as the malaria program.
We will clean the mess, new KEMSA board chair says
The newly appointed KEMSA board chair Irungu Nyakera has said he’ll clean the mess in the medical supplies authority, Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA)
Nyakera acknowledged KEMSA had been riddled with graft cases in the past and pledged to deliver it from the mess.
“The agency has been riddled with graft for the last few years and I thank President William Ruto for believing in me to deliver KEMSA from the mess. We will clean the mess, that I can assure Kenyans.”
Irungu had previously served as Kenya’s youngest Principal Secretary in the State Department of Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development.
President Ruto defends the appointment of General Ogolla as CoD
President William Ruto has defended the appointment of General Ogolla who succeeded Rtd General Robert Kibochi as the Chief of defence forces amidst dissenting voices over his appointment within the Kenya Kwanza fold over claims by former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati that Ogolla forced him to overturn President William Ruto’s Win.
Ruto’s Sentiments have however brought to the fore questions on whether his sentiments will cause friction within the Military.
DP Rigathi says he’s working to have direct flights to Colombia
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said Kenya and Colombia are working towards making direct flights between the two countries. Gachagua was speaking at the Kenya-Colombia Business Forum at Serena Hotel where he was hosting Colombia Vice President Francia Márquez Mina.
The second in command also highlighted the two countries would partner to advance coffee production.
“There is also a great opportunity for us to partner with Colombia to advance coffee production because both countries are renowned globally for their potential in the sector.”
Ruto unveils the EAC Pamoja bid to host AFCON in 2027
Kenya has jointly bid with Uganda and Tanzania to host the 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). President William Ruto said the submission is part of the Government’s plan to harness skills and talents. He said the Government was keen on undertaking interventions that will make Kenya thrive in sports.
“We are focussed on harnessing the full potential of each sector for our prosperity.”
He made the announcement on Monday at State House where he unveiled the East African Community Pamoja bid for the AFCON 2027. Appreciating Kenya’s rich sporting and creative talent, President Ruto explained that the sector has the potential to stimulate economic growth.
“This sector is a giant wellspring of opportunities. We will ensure we place Kenya on its rightful position as a sporting superpower.”
