Pres. Ruto insists bi-partisan talks in parliament are the way to resolve issues

President William Ruto has insisted that bi-partisan talks will only involve lawmakers, dismissing Raila Odinga’s proposition to have parties outside of parliament engage in the talks.

Raila has also demanded the formation of a team akin to the 2008 National Accord to work on the opposition demands.

The 2008 National Accord is an Act of Parliament that provided for the settlement of the disputes that arose from the presidential elections of 2007. It led to the formation of a coalition government and the establishment of positions of office of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

Raila on Thursday also revealed a seven-member team that would represent Azimio in negotiation talks with the Kenya Kwanza government and it comprises of five Members of the National Assembly and two Senators.

Bacteria in meat could cause UTIs, new study finds

Bacteria found in meat is responsible for spiralling urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the United States, American scientists have said.

Over half a million UTIs in the US are linked to E coli strains found in meat sold in grocery stores, the study says.

UTIs usually occur in the bladder or urethra, but more serious infections involve the kidney, with the infections also most common among women.

These findings come at a time another study in Kenya has also flagged meat products sampled from Nakuru County for contamination with coliforms and E. coli with a prevalence of 100 per cent.

More than 30 people in DR Congo killed by Islamic State group: UN

More than 30 people were killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province earlier this week in attacks attributed to a rebel group affiliated with the Islamic State jihadist group, the United Nations said Thursday.

In a statement released Thursday evening, the UN mission in the DRC — known as Monusco — said it had received reports of killings attributed to the ADF that occurred Sunday and Monday “on the border between the territories of Mambasa and Irumu”.

Monusco head Bintou Keita condemned the killings and “deplores these despicable attacks against the civilian population”, the statement said.
