Raila says parliamentary process may not work, threatens return of demos
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga now says the newly found government deal may not meet the party’s demands.
The Opposition leader says the parliamentary process may not address their concerns specifically matters of cost of living.
Raila now proposes the formation of a team akin to the 2008 National Accord.
“We (Azimio) assure our people and Kenyans that our eyes are firmly on the ball, and reiterate that we shall go back to the people as the earliest sign of lack of seriousness by the other side,” he said.
UDA responds to Raila’s new demands
President William Ruto’s party UDA has responded to new demands by Azimio la Umoja Coalition party leader Raila Odinga over the formation of a team akin to the 2008 National Accord to work on the opposition demands.
In a statement on Tuesday, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala said the demand is “unreasonable” and tells the true cause of the anti-government protests that lasted for two weeks.
“Formation of any body, not legally recognised by the constitution or statute law amounts to living in utopia and broad daylight hallucination,” Malala said.
“We as a party shall not accept any process that is outside the preview of the constitution or offends the law as established.”
Six people have been killed in Taita Taveta floods
The body of a pregnant woman was recovered on Tuesday after being swept away by flash floods in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County.
The search is still on for the bodies of her two children. Their house was swept away by flash floods due to a heavy downpour that has left a trail of destruction in the area.
The death brings to six the number of people who have so far been killed by floods and landslides in the area.
Family, friends and the whole village camped at the banks of Mwatate dam in Taita Taveta county, as divers tried their luck to get the missing bodies.
Trump charges: hush money paid to porn star, model and doorman
Prosecutors laid out a case of lies and cover-ups against Donald Trump on Tuesday over hush-money payments made to a porn star, a Playboy model and a doorman to hide potentially damaging information ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The indictment handed down by a Manhattan grand jury and unsealed on Tuesday charges Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Under New York law, a defendant convicted of falsifying business records can receive between one and four years in prison.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said the scheme involved Trump, his former personal attorney Michael Cohen and executives at American Media Inc, publisher of the National Enquirer tabloid.
Bragg said they were involved in what he called a “catch and kill” operation to “buy and suppress negative information to help Mr. Trump’s chance of winning the election.”
