Rigathi Gachagua in Murang’a county
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua will today be the chief guest at Murang’a County’s Bursary Day. The event will be celebrating the best pupils in Murang’a and awarding county bursaries. The event starts at 11 am at Ihura Stadium, Murang’a County.
This comes a day after Member’s of Parliament attending an induction in Mombasa county received the promised NG-CDF after boycotting the induction for two days.
The MPs walked out of conference halls and vowed to only go back once the Treasury deposited the KES 100M in their NG-CDF accounts per constituency.
Kenya Railways goes cashless
Kenya Railways has announced that it will no longer accept cash for the purchase of tickets at all Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations starting from February 2023.
Customers are encouraged to use MPesa or debit/credit cards as an alternative mode of payment at all Points of Service.
“We will no longer be accepting cash for the purchase of tickets at all Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations,” the company said in a public notice.
17 wounded in DR Congo blast: official
At least 17 people were wounded Wednesday when a bomb exploded in a market in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said, as the region continues to be plagued by insecurity.
The victims suffered injuries to their feet, arms and heads, the correspondent said.
“A young man left a green plastic bag… promising to come back and get it. About three minutes later, the bag exploded, injuring people including myself and the customers who had come to grind their cassava,” Dany Siauswa, manager of a mill business, told AFP.
Tanzania opposition leader Lissu returns from exile
Tanzanian opposition stalwart Tundu Lissu arrived back in his homeland on Wednesday to a rousing welcome from supporters after spending most of the past five years in exile following an assassination attempt.
The former presidential candidate was greeted by supporters in the red, white and blue colours of his Chadema party, an AFP correspondent said.
Lissu suffered 16 wounds in a gun attack in 2017 and spent most of the years since then in Belgium.

Nzoia Sugar moved to joint top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table after a 2-1 win over Vihiga Bullets at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. Tusker and Nzoia both have 24 points from 11 and 12 games respectively but the brewers stay top on goal difference after they settled to a 0-0 draw with Ulinzi Stars.
KCB are third, after their 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers as Mathare United recorded its first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Bidco United. AFC Leopards stopped Kenya Police by a solitary goal at Nyayo National Stadium, as Sofapaka grabbed a 1-1 draw against hosts Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium.
Elsewhere, Bandari lost 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani as Nairobi City Stars recorded a vital 1-0 win over Wazito at Ruaraka Grounds.
