President Ruto emphasizes teamwork and accountability at cabinet retreat
President William Ruto has stressed the value of collaboration and efficiency during the Cabinet retreat he chaired at the Fairmont Mt Kenya Safari Club, Nanyuki.
The President emphasized the importance of working together to avoid unnecessary conflicts and deliver as one government.
Additionally, he underscored the importance of digitization and promised that all government services would be fully digital within the following six months.
“We have about 300 govt services that are digitized and it is my expectation that the 5,000 un-digitized services will be digitized in the next 6 months,” Ruto said.
Ruto advocated using phone communication in place of ‘pointless’ meetings and committees in order to make government more approachable.
“I have given you my number, drop me an SMS and tell me I have this decision, I will help if I am in a position to,” he added.
The president also reiterated the use of technology to close gaps in tax collection and use, as well as the packaging of government initiatives into business opportunities.
“We must use technology to close the loss of government revenue,” he said.
He emphasized the value of a bottom-up strategy and said that during the retreat, ministries should develop timetables for prioritizing manifesto promises.
Additionally, Ruto stated that starting with the next meeting, the cabinet will go paperless and switch to an electronic format. He emphasized the need for efficiency and said that it is time to provide value to the Kenyan people, adding that sending letters takes too much time and bureaucracy.
The president added that the next budget would emphasize finishing up ongoing programs and would reflect the priorities of the “Hustler Nation.” He urged government representatives to look beyond their own villages and counties, saying that they needed to understand Kenya’s overall landscape.
“It’s my expectation that each of us will work beyond their village and their county, you are the CS and PS for every corner of Kenya,” Ruto added.
Additionally, Ruto highlighted the importance of accountability, saying that the government will be held accountable to the Kenyan people and subject to oversight. He said that public servants are their servants and advocates, and that the interests of the people come first.
Furthermore, Ruto urged the younger government officials to seek guidance and advice, saying that no one has a monopoly on knowledge and that it is acceptable to acknowledge ignorance.
