President Ruto backs Donald Trump’s two sexes rule
President William Ruto has backed US President Donald Trump’s executive order that only recognises two sexes— male and female.
Dr Ruto on Sunday welcomed President Trump’s decision to ban transgender people from serving in the US military.
The executive order signed on January 21, 2025, declared that the government would recognise only two sexes— male and female.
“Contrary to what has been happening in the past, this year we got some very welcome developments in the United States that as a leading democracy, we have gotten to understand that the policy direction of the United States supports what we believe in. That boys must remain boys and men must remain men and women must remain women and girls must remain girls,” Dr Ruto said.
“We thank God that this year, the very first news from the United States in the new administration is to confirm what the Bible says, what our faith believes in and what our tradition firmly is grounded on.”
Speaking at the Global Cathedral Church 4th annual Dedication Assembly Convention at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Dr Ruto said Kenya supports the direction taken by President Trump adding that there is a special bond between the US and Kenya.
Mr Trump’s order cleared the way to bar transgender people from military service by revoking President Joe Biden-era policy that allowed trans service members.
Mr Trump is expected to lay out a new ban as his administration moves swiftly to target transgender rights.
The US military is the largest employer in the nation, and transgender people are twice as likely to serve as their cisgender peers.
Mr Trump, who returned to the White House for a second term in office, first banned transgender people from military service in 2017. It is estimated that once the ban took effect in 2019, 13,763 transgender people lost their jobs.
Dr Ruto also praised President Trump for backing the Kenya-led Multinational Security Mission to Haiti.
“Last year, I was requested by President Biden to provide Kenya’s security diplomacy that is legendary and known to support Haiti,” Dr Ruto said.
“I am very proud that even President Trump with the new administration supports the Kenyan mission to Haiti to help the men and women and children of that country to experience peace and stability so that they too can do what other nations do.”
Kenya last year pledged to send 1,000 police officers to the Caribbean nation to support Haitian police officers to fight gangs.
The Kenya-led United Nation-backed Multinational Security force initially deployed 400 police officers to Port-au-Prince.
On January 19, another batch of 217 Kenyan police officers landed in Haiti and were received by Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime, Presidential adviser Fritz Alphonse Jean and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission commander Godfrey Otunge.
The officers were accompanied by former Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett, Deputy Inspector-General Gilbert Masengeli and Ranson Lolmodooni, the commandant General Service Unit (GSU).
The Kenya police were later joined by 24 Jamaican personnel and two senior officers from Belize.
El Salvador had last August pledged to send 78 soldiers for medical evacuation operations as well as three helicopters.
The UN-mission has, however, failed to prevent the gangs from taking new territories and committing several massacres and violence dramatically escalated in the last months of 2024, causing thousands more people to flee their homes.
Some 10 countries have together pledged over 3,100 troops for Haiti, but few have so far deployed.
Dr Ruto asked Kenyans to pray for the government noting that 2025 is going to be a great year.
“There are already signs God is taking our nation to places. Just yesterday. Just yesterday, we got good news about what God is doing in healing our economy,” Dr Ruto told the congregation.
“Working together, we have seen inflation rates come down, interest rates come down and exchange rates come down and a great movement towards healing of our economy so that we move together as a nation. I agree with Bishop Moses Turere that 2025 is going to be a great year.”
Dr Ruto asked the Global Cathedral church, its membership and other believers in the country to pray for Kenya so that God can take the country to places and make the nation great.
