Cabinet Secretary Interior and Coordination of National Government, Kithure Kindiki has termed allegations of a police invasion at the home of former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i as false.
In a press statement, Kindiki said no police officers or any security agent from the government were sent to Matiang’i’s home.
“This allegation is utterly false. No police officer(s) or any security agent from any Government institution or department was dispatched to the home of Dr. Matiang’i to arrest, harass or otherwise interfere with his Constitutional rights in any manner whatsoever,” said Kindiki.
Kindiki said his office has verified no orders were given to search for or arrest the former Minister.
He called on any member of the public with information pertaining to the purported invasion to share with the police.
“Any person with information relating to the alleged incident at Matiang’i’s home last night is advised to file a formal complaint at the nearest police station for investigations and appropriate action,” the CS said.
The statement by Kindiki follows those of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and the National Police Service, all distancing themselves from the alleged police raid.
Inspector General of police Japheth Koome said no officer under the National Police Service was sent to the house of Matiang’i last night.
“There is no officer under the National Police Service was at the former CS home. We have checked and I can confirm that,” he said.
The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak too denied his offciers were involved in the said attempted raid.
“We are not aware. Those, if any are not EACC officers. We have nothing against him,” he said.
On Wednesday, reports of a police raid at Matiang’i’s home emerged with a litany of lawyers and leaders allied to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
