Police arrest suspect behind Homabay police station break-in
Detectives from the DCI have arrested one suspect linked to the two-week-old break-in at the Kipasi Police Post in Homabay County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the probe resulted in the arrest of Charles Nyumba Ongany, 27, and the recovery of one G-3 rifle loaded with 20 7.62mm caliber rounds.
The suspect was apprehended after a raid on his father’s compound in Abuje village, Nyando Kisumu County. Police officers received a tip that the guns were buried in the compound.
The suspect’s father, who was also suspected of being a member of the violent group, managed to flee.
The raid on Kipasi Police Station by what police suspect to be a gang resulted in the brave robbers escaping with four firearms and 110 ammunition from the armory.
Three G3 rifles and one AK-47 rifle were stolen, with serial numbers G3 S/NO. A3 6699056, G3 S/NO. 6593403, G3 FMP 402994, and AK-47 NO. 4913650.
According to a police investigation, the offenders also stole 80 rounds of 7.62 millimetre and 30 rounds of 7.62-millimeter special ammunition.
No one was apparently present at the armoury at the time the crooks broke in.
When a police corporal arrived at the station, he learned someone had broken into the building.
Upon further investigation, he discovered that four guns had been stolen. He then informed his bosses about the break-in.
Officers from the Mbita and Homa Bay police stations were immediately sent to the scene to investigate.
