Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho dies at Nairobi Hospital
Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho is dead.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, confirmed the death of the three-term legislator.
“The late Hon. David Njuguna Kiaraho, CBS, MP passed away today, Sunday, 29th March 2026 at around twenty minutes past 1am while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital,” Mr Wetang’ula stated.
According to close aides and family members, Mr Kiaraho had been unwell for some time since the last general election and had largely stayed out of the public eye over the past year.
This year, the MP had delegated most of his official duties to his constituency office staff, including the issuance of CDF bursaries, a task he had traditionally overseen since his first election in 2013.
Mr Kiaraho was first elected on a Jubilee ticket but later aligned with and supported the UDA government.
The Speaker has appointed a Funeral Preparation Committee to liaise with the family and coordinate a fitting send-off for the MP.
“The team will be led by the Member for Kinangop, Hon. Kwenya Thuku, MP, assisted by the Member for Nyandarua, Hon. Faith Gitau, CBS, MP, and seven other as well as seven other honourable members,” Mr Wetangula added.
Until his death, the MP served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a Member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure and the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
He was born on October 2, 1963 and attended Alliance High School before later joining the University of Nairobi, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
Prior to joining politics, the legislator built a professional career as an architect and served as Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, establishing a strong background in infrastructure and built environment projects.
President William Ruto has led the country in mourning the Ol Kalou MP.
The President expressed his shock over the death, saying it was a big setback to the constituents.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the people of Ol Kalou during this difficult period” Dr Ruto said
“Hon Kiaraho was a humble, steadfast, and visionary leader, whose commitment to serving his constituents made him a pillar of his community” Dr Ruto said.
Dr Ruto said, “Kiaraho will be remembered for his outstanding contribution to the education sector and for his distinguished service in the National Assembly.”
“His life stands as an inspiration to leaders of this generation to rise above political rivalry and remain focused on service and the core issues that matter to the people,” Dr Ruto said.
The President said, “May his ‘Kazi kwanza, siasa baadaye’ legacy endure. Rest in peace, Mheshimiwa.”
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot said, “Mr Kiaraho was an astute lawmaker who served his people with dignity and singleness of mind, as attested by the three term mandate extended by the people of Ol Kalau.”
“Through his expertise as an experienced and well respected architect, the Committee on Roads and Infrastructure where he served , benefited immensely from his wealth of knowledge and country will sorely miss his services as it embarks on major infrastructural projects,” Mr Cheruiyot said.
Leader of the Majority at the National Assembly, Kimani Ichungwa, said the MP was “a diligent and committed leader, his service in the National Assembly, especially in the Transport Committee and the Procedure and House Rules Committee, will be remembered.”
Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen said the late MP “was an amiable and development-conscious leader who worked hard to improve the lives of his constituents”
“I served with Hon Kiaraho in Parliament and later worked closely with him when he was a member of the National Assembly’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee and I was the CS for Roads.”
“My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Ol Kalou. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time of mourning.” Mr Murkomen said.
