ODM’s National Elections Board denies change of party officials in Kakamega county
ODM’s National Elections Board (NEB) has issued a press statement clarifying that any alleged changes in party officials in Kakamega County are not valid without the express approval of the NEB.
The NEB chaired by Catherine Mumma is mandated to carry out elections within the Party, including the election of Party officials, and they have reminded Party members and supporters that no election or replacement of officials will take place without their approval as provided for in the law.
“Should any party official wish to resign or relinquish their position, they are advised to follow the laid down procedure by formally writing to the… In the meantime, the NEB advises those intending to vie for any party position to start acquainting themselves with rules that govern the grassroots elections pending the announcement of the date of elections.”
The statement comes at a time when Former Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Leader, Wycliffe Oparanya, has called for an end to the conflict between Kakamega Women’s Representative, Elsie Muhanda, and Governor Fernandez Barasa. Oparanya urged the leaders to put aside their differences and work together to benefit the residents of Kakamega.
Oparanya denied reports regarding rumours that he is running for the Senate seat clarifying that his focus is on national politics. He urged leaders to prioritize working for the people instead of engaging in conflicts that are detrimental to the growth of Kakamega County.
The NEB advised those intending to vie for any party position to start acquainting themselves with rules that govern the grassroots elections, pending the announcement of the date of elections.
