ODM leaders castigate Malala over call for Raila’s arrest
ODM party leaders in Kilifi have castigated UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala for his call for the arrest of Raila Odinga.
Speaking in a Kilifi Hotel on Monday, the leaders warned that Malala’s remarks are “inflammatory and can burn the country”.
Earlier, Malala said that the time had reached to have Raila held accountable for the destruction of property and scaring away investors whenever he called for protests.
He suggested the party leader be arrested for the destruction.
In response, Kilifi county ODM chairman and Assembly speaker Teddy Mwambire said any attempt to arrest Odinga will spark more protests.
“Raila is the fourth arm of the government and he cannot be touched. Malala’s utterances are misplaced and will cause mayhem. It will cost this country badly,” he said
Kilifi County Assembly Majority Leader Ibrahim Matumbo said that on Wednesday they will stage a peaceful protest to push the government to bring down the cost of leaving.
He warned that any attempt to arrest Raila shall be met with resistance from his supporters and will jeopardize the peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.
“We will not destroy any property. We will be meeting to voice our concerns. The police must never interfere with this protest because we will be peaceful,” said Matumbo
Malindi Member of Parliament Amina Munyazi warned Malala of retaliation if he disrespects Raila.
Kaloleni Mp Paul Katana said the utterance will lead the country into a mess.
“Raila is not his match. If he wants to engage, let him engage me or the likes of Stewart Madzayo. Raila is far ahead of him. If he is influential as he thinks then he would have been elected,” she said
The MP said if Malala did not tone down they would send demons from the Shakahola forest to deal with him.
“We come from Shaka Hola and we will send all demons from Shakahola and everywhere,” She added
Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo said the government will be held responsible should anything happen to Raila.
“Raila is an enigma in this country. He is the pillar of Kenyan politics. If anything happens to him, leave alone threatening to arrest him, if anything happens to him we will hold this government responsible. Raila should be respected,” he said
Madzayo said the planned protest will be held in Kilifi town.
Malala, accused the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance party leader of inciting Kenyans against President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a UDA party mass registration drive at the Minjila area in the Garsen constituency, Malala argued that by Raila calling for civil disobedience, he was painting the Ruto government in a bad light.
Raila has been giving the Ruto administration a run for their time and recently during the Saba Saba rally, he rallied his supporters to start collecting 10 million signatures to impeach the President.
“We are putting up with you for too long and we are almost fed up. If you continue to destroy people’s property, chasing away investors and misusing youths then we will arrest you because you are not above the law,” Malala said.
