The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has said it will publish the list of the newly licensed Transport Network Companies (TNC) on Wednesday, November 30.
Director General George Njao of the Authority said in a statement on Wednesday that the NTSA has received six applications since publishing its notice of registration on October 3.
Adding, “…and they are at the validation stage prior to licensing of successful applicants.”
The NTSA had invited all present and potential Digital Hailing Companies that needed to apply for TNC licencing to do so by October 17 in the notification published earlier in the month.
This came after a workshop the Ministry of Transportation organised with the participation of all interested parties to put the TNC, Drivers and Passengers Rules, 2022 into operation.
Additionally, the NTSA asked taxi businesses and their drivers to become familiar with the laws before they went into force on June 20.
Customers’ fears about their financial and personal safety led to the gazettement.
It was discovered that some cab drivers took longer routes in an effort to charge customers more money.
Former Transport CS James Macharia issued a warning to them in a regulatory paper, stating that they may face a KES 20,000 fine or six months in jail.
