Nick Salat expelled from KANU over gross misconduct
Nick Salat has officially been expelled as the secretary general of KANU.
His dismissal comes as a result of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa on Friday.
“That the report of the National Disciplinary Committee recommending the immediate expulsion of Nick Salat from the position of the Secretary-General of the party on account of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution is unanimously adopted,” Joseph Towett, the Director of Communications said in a statement.
Party leader Gideon Moi has been mandated to propose for deliberations and adoption, suitable individuals to fill the vacant national positions, including that of the Secretary-General, on an interim basis.
“The current political dispensation calls for ideologically grounded, united and visionary political parties. As a party, we will continue to play our role within the opposition to hold the government to account,” Moi tweeted after the meeting.
In January while speaking during a thanksgiving service at the Bomet Green Stadium, Nick Salat announced that he would support President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
Salat claimed that he made the decision to support Ruto after feeling excluded following the August General Election.
KANU had set up a disciplinary committee to look into Salat’s actions, leading to his initial suspension from the party.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Salat claimed that the reason for his suspension was a party meeting held in Nakuru.
Salat said that during the meeting, he raised many issues, including the leadership’s obligation to step down in light of the party’s poor performance.
