New DCI Amin Mohamed sworn in
The new Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed Ibrahim was on Wednesday morning sworn in.
Mohamed took the oath of office at the Supreme Court, in an event presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Amin who previously headed the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police Service pledged to transform the DCI into an institution that serves with integrity and professionalism.
“This is a new chapter for the DCI and I want to promise the president and the people of Kenya that I will not let you down. I am ready for the task and ready to lead the DCI to deal with the challenges of our time,” he said.
Amin added that he will seek to oversee the criminal justice system and lessen crimes like graft and money laundering.
In order to accomplish his objectives within the constraints of other security agencies’ missions, he pledged to cooperate with them.
“We shall try as much as possible to work in collaboration with other security agencies such as the EAC, KPS, APS and other actors of the criminal justice system including the ODPP, Judiciary amongst others for purposes of serving Kenyans without prejudice,” he said.
“We shall tackle the temporary challenges facing the country including terrorism, narcotics, human trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering, and corruption to the extent that our mandate allows.”
Amin said he wants to be accessible to persons who might need his assistance. He told Kenyans to reach him on 0722415419.
“I will always be available and for purposes of records, I would like to give out my number which is, 0722415419, so that any member of the public or any other person who feels like reaching out to me can easily do so,” he said.
He pledged to work with all strategic partners to ensure they deliver on the mandate of the directorate.
Along with other police authorities, the ceremony was attended by Acting IG Noor Gabow and NPSC head Eliud Kinuthia.
Ibrahim held a number of positions prior to his appointment, including that of head of the Internal Affairs Unit and the heads of the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit, among others.
Amin examined grievances against police while employed in the Internal Affairs Unit.
