Nelson Havi appointed chairperson of Retirement Benefits Authority board
Former Law Society of Kenya President, Nelson Havi, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Retirement Benefits Authority.
The announcement was made by Njuguna Ndung’u, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, through the Kenya Gazette on Friday. The appointment takes effect from February 10, 2023, and Havi will serve for a period of three years.
This appointment comes after the revocation of the appointment of Abdirahin H. Abdi, who previously held the position.
The notice published in the Kenya Gazette stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (f) and 6 (a) of the Retirement Benefits Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the appoints Nelson Havi to be a Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 10th February 2023. The appointment of Abdirahin H. Abdi is revoked.”
Abdi was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors on July 5, 2022. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Regulatory Authority and has been at the helm of several other companies.
The Retirement Benefits Authority has ten board members. Other Havi, the others on the board are; Charles Machira (CEO), Joseph Z. Ngugi (Alternate Director representing the CS Treasury), Dr. James Chelanga, Margaret Gaitirira, Wyckliffe M. Shamiah, Hussein Alinoor Ibrahim, Godfrey K. Kiptum, Dr. Margaret M. Makumi, and Praxidis Saisi (Board Secretary).
Nelson Havi is no stranger to the public eye.
In December last year after being listed among the eight shortlisted candidates for the solicitor general by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Havi was also a candidate for the Westlands parliamentary seat, representing the United Democratic Alliance, but lost to the incumbent Timothy Wanyonyi of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
