Nanok, Koskei poised to take up key State House jobs
President William Ruto is posed to appoint former Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok to be the State House Comptroller while former Agriculture CS Felix Koskei is to be tapped as the President’s Chief of Staff.
When President Ruto yesterday accepted credentials from the new ambassadors of Turkey, Italy, India, and France, Nanok and Koskei stood out.
At State House, the two could be seen shadowing Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua and State House Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua.
Koskei will be tasked with working behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are brought to the President.
At the Executive Office of the President, he is responsible for managing operations, coordinating policies, and supervising staff. On behalf of the President, he talks with ministries, state departments, and agencies regarding the daily operations of the government.
He is in charge of organizing and carrying out the office’s projects and programs.
Koskei left the cabinet under a cloud of suspicion after a list tabled in Parliament named him among other five cabinet secretaries as corrupt public servants.
The list tabled by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2015 alleged that Koskei was issuing permits under the table to some importers to bring in sugar without going through open tendering, which is against procurement laws and Comesa rules.
Three years later, 2018, he was appointed to serve in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Nanok is set to replace former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who served under Kenyatta. Nanok will effectively be Ruto’s chief accounting officer and secretary.
He will be tasked with making sure that all activities related to transportation, security, communication, catering, and general administration are appropriately funded and carried out.
The president’s physician and State House Comptrollers collaborate to make sure that planned health checkups are performed.
Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita resigned early this year to focus on the Machakos Governorship. He lost to Wavinya Ndeti.
