Nairobi woman accused of inviting ex-lover to beat up husband at his home
A Nairobi woman, 35, has been charged with assault after she allegedly beat up her husband and threatened to kill him before inviting her ex-partner to his house at the height of their domestic dispute.
In the assault charge, Ms Grace Wanjiku is accused along with her “ex-lover”, who is also her baby daddy, of allegedly assaulting Mr Umberto Daniel at his home in South B Estate, Nairobi, on 10 September.
Wanjiku is accused of threatening to kill Umberto after allegedly saying “I will kill someone….don’t dare me” while holding a kitchen knife after he asked her where she was coming from after returning home after midnight.
Wanjiku’s ex-partner, the co-accused, who did not appear in court, was to be charged with uttering death threats after allegedly threatening to shoot Umberto. He has since been summoned by the court.
Wanjiku was also charged with causing a disturbance after the commotion at the complainant’s home.
According to the police, Wanjiku became violent and allegedly started throwing and dismantling household items before a fight broke out between her and Umberto.
She allegedly grabbed a knife and started scratching on the walls while threatening to kill Umberto as she packed her belongings.
Ms Wanjiku is said to have called her ex-partner, who arrived within minutes and joined her in assaulting Umberto before making the alleged death threats.
The two suspects later left the scene together, while Umberto made his way to South B Police Station where he reported the incident at around 3am.
Ms Wanjiku denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwany of the Makadara Law Courts.
The investigating officer, Corporal Horace Arwa, said the co-accused was uncooperative during investigations, adding that the suspect asked for the complainant’s car registration details, an indication that he was planning to follow him.
But Ms Okwany said she would not register Cpl Arwa’s allegations against the co-accused because the suspect had not been produced before her.
Ms Okwany remanded Wanjiku in custody until 23 October and ordered a social investigation report by the Probation and Aftercare Services Department, which will inform her decision on bail and bail conditions.
Ms Wanjiku will be remanded in custody at Nairobi Women’s Prison.
The magistrate summoned Wanjiku’s ex-partner to appear in court on 23 October during the mention of the case, when he is expected to be charged.
