Murkomen appoints William Kipkemboi as MD of Kenya Ports Authority
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has appointed Captain William Kipkemboi Ruto as Managing Director at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) effective March 10, for three years.
The position of Managing Director at the KPA has been vacant for the last three years. During this period, to ensure the continuity of the Authority’s businesses, the Board made several appointments to the position in an Acting capacity.
There have been many unsuccessful attempts by the KPA Board of Directors to competitively fill this position.
A recruitment exercise was carried out by KPA’s Board of Directors on December 23, 2022, which attracted 75 applications.
“After a rigorous and intensive recruitment process, the Board of Directors has this morning submitted a report and recommendation to my office for the appointment of Captain William Kipkemboi Ruto, having attained the highest aggregate score from the interview process,” Murkomen said in a statement.
Capt. William Ruto holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Strategic Management option from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He is an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute (AF-NI) and a member of the International Harbour Master’s Association (UK), and has attained the highest qualification as a Ship Captain (Class 1 Master Mariner) from South Tyneside Marine College, UK. Capt.
Ruto is a seasoned mariner having started his career in 1991 at KPA as a Cadet Marine Deck Officer before rising through the ranks to be a General Manager, Operations and later a Harbour Master. Until this appointment, he was the General Manager of the Kisumu Port.
