Murang’a robbery suspect had 9 gunshot wounds, autopsy reveals
Joseph Kamau, one of the two suspects who were killed in Murang’a on Sunday in a controversial manner by the police was shot nine times.
According to the results of the autopsy conducted yesterday evening in the presence of the family and officials from IPOA, Joseph was shot three times in the head and six times in the rest of his body.
Speaking in the Murang’a mortuary while Joseph Kamau’s body was being autopsied, Francis Kangethe, his father, said they were very disappointed by the gruesome death of their son. Francis, a father of three, said his son, who had previously served as a police officer, was killed in a brutal manner.
Joseph, who was 30 years old, leaves behind a wife and two children. The family learned of their relative’s death through social media and news reports, and they are calling on the government to ensure that justice is served.
This comes as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the killings of the two suspects.
The Central Regional Commissioner, Fredrick Shisia, has emphasized that the two were killed by their accomplices and not the police. According to the autopsy results, three shots to the head were what killed Joseph Kamau. The identity of the second suspect has not yet been established.
