MPs submit names of CDF committee members despite Apex Court scrapping the fund
Members of Parliament have submitted the proposed names of the various Constituency development funds committee for approval and release of the money by the national treasury despite the Supreme Court ruling terming the fund illegal.
In Kirinyaga central, area Member of Parliament Gachoki Gitari submitted the list of committee members which will be managed by a 32-year-old youth.
The MP has insisted that the National Government Constituency Development Fund is still in force saying that what the Supreme Court annulled is the CDF act of 2013. “NGCDF is still active,” he said.
Gachoki said that the MPs already have a deadline for the submission of CDF committee members and also of submitting even the proposals so that the board can start releasing the money.
The MP said that due to the transition, most of the students have gone to school without bursaries noting the monies will be sent later one the substantive government settles and the funds are released.
“We will disburse bursaries just like we promised during campaigns,” he said.
Gachoki said that it has also been agreed that 75 per cent of the CDF monies will be shared equally among the 290 constituencies whereas the remaining 25 per cent will be shared among the constituencies with more wards.
In Kirinyaga, Mwea constituency will receive the highest allocation of funds since it has eight wards, followed by Gichugu with five wards, Kirinyaga Central with four wards while Ndia constituency will receive the lowest allocation since it only has three wards.
