Mother in court for burning children’s hands with hot panga for stealing maize
A woman was on Thursday arraigned in court after she allegedly burnt her children’s hands in Sirikwa Kuresoi North, Nakuru.
According to police, the woman used a hot panga to burn her two children aged nine and 13 years after claims that the children stole maize and cabbage from a nearby shamba.
The two children are in nursing burn injuries at Molo Subcounty Hospital as their mother takes a plea at Molo law courts before Senior Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita.
Similar incidents of child abuse have been reported in the recent past. In July this year, a mother in Machakos burnt her two children as punishment for licking sugar. The woman is said to have committed the heinous act using a hot knife and plastic paper.
The children aged 6 and 8 had to be admitted to Athi River Hospital for treatment.
Last year, a mother locked her 12-year-old girl in a chamber in Garsen and burned her body with plastic bags for allegedly stealing Sh700 meant for dinner.
