Meru shuttle reacts to claims its crew undressed a passenger, blames rivals
Officials from Meru Luxury shuttle have come out to clarify over claims that the shuttle crews undressed a female passenger over fare tussle.
This is after pictures went viral on social media of an unclothed passenger in one of their vehicles.
It was claimed that the ‘lady’, said to be deaf, was undressed due to failure to pay KES 1,000 fare.
Even so, the shuttle secretary Dan Kanyamu said the incident was a exaggerated by rivals.
While acknowledging that there was an incident where a passenger tried to undress while in their vehicle, he said the passenger was male and not female.
Kanyamu said the passenger boarded the vehicle at around 2am in Meru town and fell asleep al through the journey to Nairobi.
He said the driver tried to wake the passenger up but he didn’t.
“After some minutes of commotion at the Tea Room mainstage, the young man started unclothing himself and the driver drove the vehicle to Central Police station in Nairobi where the police forced him to get dressed,” Kanyamu said.
“We are asking our competitors to do a fair competition instead of tarnishing our company with fake images” Samson Thuranira, the Meru Luxury shuttle treasurer said.
They said the whole matter is just an unfair business competition battle from their competitors who took advantage of the situation and made it viral.
They said the man might have some mental illness and they were advised by the police from Nairobi to return him to Meru.
They said to have reported the matter to the CID officers and the cyber crime officers for further investigations.
The matter is still active at Imenti North Sub County Police Station.
