The government has designated Monday, August 29, a public holiday in places where there were no elections.
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, ordered Monday a public holiday to allow citizens in the area to exercise their democratic rights via Gazette Notice.
“Employers around the country are requested to release their employees who are registered voters in the listed electoral areas to enable them to vote.” reads the statement by Matiang’i.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced in a gazette notice that elections will be place in the following electoral regions on Monday; Mombasa County, Kakamega County, Kitui Rural Constituency, Kacheliba Constituency, Pokot South Constituency, Rongai Constituency, Kwa Njenga Ward (Embakasi South Constituency), Nyaki West Ward (Imenti North Constituency).
“In accordance with the Constitution of Kenya (Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) and the Public Holidays Act (Sections 2(4) and 3), Monday, 29 August 2022 has been declared a public holiday in the listed electoral areas,” read part of the statement by Matiang’i.
