Maigo’s murder: My daughter is just a thief, not a murderer, mother of teen-suspect says

The mother of the prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo has rubbished allegations that her daughter is a murderer.

While defending the minor implicated in the gruesome killing of Maigo, the mother who spoke to NTV’s Brian Obuya admitted that the girl is a juvenile delinquent with a rough past but doubts she is capable of taking a life.

She revealed that the girl was initially studying at Olympic Primary School in Kibra, but was eventually transferred to Dagoretti Approved School after she started misbehaving in Class 4, with cases of skipping school and allegedly stealing clothes in the nearby Toi market.

She spoke about liters of Salad Oil that the girl had brought home some days before Eric Maigo’s murder, claiming it was given by an NGO.

After confirmation, this claim was found to be false.

Doreen told NTV that her daughter came home with marks on her body, which she said her friends who were with her had caused.

The mother also insisted that even though her daughter was a thief, she was not a murderer.

Meanwhile, in the sprawling slums of Kibra, the teenage girl and her mother had a heated argument over food. In the morning, the mother realized that her daughter had disappeared during the night.

In an NTV investigative report on Wednesday, September 27, it came to light that the suspect was present at her mother’s residence past 11 pm on that fateful night.

On the day when Eric Maigo met his tragic end, he was seen partying with three women at a club along Ngong Road at around 10 pm.

Subsequently, CCTV cameras captured the teenager’s presence five blocks away from the location where the murder allegedly occurred.

The house from which the suspect was seen jumping is not Eric Maigo’s residence, but it’s in the same estate.

The DCI later identified her as a prime suspect, initiating a highly publicized manhunt.

However, at the time of her arrest, several crucial questions remained unanswered. What was the relationship between the teenager and Maigo? What did their phone call conversations reveal? Unfortunately, answering these questions would prove challenging due to the mother’s claim that the suspect had never owned a phone.

The minor who was arrested in relation to the death of Eric Maigo, the former Chief Finance officer at Nairobi Hospital, has told detectives that she had never met the deceased before the day of his death.

A detective attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) told Nairobi News that the suspect told detectives that hat she had never met the deceased before the day of his death.

She claimed to have met the deceased by the roadside after she fled her home following a disagreement with her guardian.

“She has said as she was walking away from home she met the deceased who offered to take her to his home which she agreed,” the source allegedly said.

The police have been granted a 21-day detention period to conclude their investigations. During this time, they face the daunting task of connecting the dots between a juvenile delinquent with no mobile phone and who does not fit the image of someone trying to get away with murder.

The suspect was apprehended at a friend’s house in her Bombolulu neighborhood of Kibra. On CCTV footage that circulated the internet during her manhunt, the suspect is seen jumping into a compound at 6:27 in the morning, remaining there until 6:50 am, and spending 23 minutes in the compound without raising suspicion from two women nearby.

We can only await the revelations that investigators may uncover. Perhaps the most shocking details about the suspect are yet to surface.
