Five slots, 15 nominees, UDA’s picks now on intensive lobby for EALA

President William Ruto is on Tuesday expected to whip his Kenya Kwanza camp to support a fine list of five nominees he wants to join the East African legislative assembly.

This as it emerged that the 15 nominees who were shortlisted for the five slots available for the ruling outfit have upped their game with intense lobbying.

It has been established that the final list will be presented at State House on Tuesday where members will be asked to support it ahead of parliamentary voting on Thursday.

Among the names that are touted to make it to the final five include former Kisii senatorial candidate Okeng’o Nyambane who shelved his ambitions in the last general election

He was prevailed upon by president William Ruto to quit the race and backed then gubernatorial candidate Ezekiel Machogu, now Education CS.

When he campaigned in the region, Ruto said he would pick Nyambane as CS if he won the polls, but now having missed out in both the CS and PS slots , it is expected that Nyambane will make it to EALA.

Others include ex-Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar who lost in his bid to become Mombasa govenor. He is said to have opted for EALA to becoming PS.

Former United Republican Party Secretary General Fred Muteti who workes closely with Ruto when he was the URP boss is also tipped to land the EALA job.

Muteti was forced to quit the race for Makueni parliamentary seat in the last election and was promised that he would be handed a job in the national government.

Former nominted senator Falhada Iman is also among those tipped to be there endorsed during Tuesday’s meeting to be held at State House House Nairobi.

She was part of the nominated senators allied to Ruto in the last Parliament who put up a legal fight to protect their seats after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched a political war on Tangatanga allied lawmakers.

Rebecca Merikeju who vied for the Turkana woman representative seat is also in the final line up that has the blessings of top UDA party honchos.
“Tuesday will just be a formality as the list has already been agreed on, we shall listen to the party leadership before the vote on Thursday,” said a senior UDA official who didn’t want to be quoted.

On the Azimio side, Raila Odinga’s daughter, Winnie, is said to be the preferred candidate for ODM party while Wiper has Kennedy Musyoka, the son of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as their choice.
