(VIDEO): Leave the Kenyatta family alone, Nyanza Anglican Bishops tell President Ruto
The Nyanza Anglican Bishops have asked President William Ruto to let the former first family be and instead focus on issues affecting the country.
Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu where they had gone to visit patients, the religious leaders asked the government to give the Kenyattas the respect they deserve.
“We want the President to give the Kenyatta family the latitude they deserve as the former first family in this country,” ACK bishop David Kodia said.
Led by ACK Bishop David Kodia the clergy further urged President Ruto to give his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta a call in order to save the nation.
“A phone call to the former president Uhuru Kenyatta will save this nation from such an embarrassment that we have witnessed for the last few days,” Kodia said.
“ If you want to run this country based on suspicion, fear, and vendetta then no one will remain in this country.
Fuelling tension through reckless utterances cannot save this nation from its economic woes. A national conversation is critical for a peaceful transition.”
On Friday evening, President Uhuru addressed the nation, faulting the move by the police to raid his son’s residence in search of the gun.
Uhuru dared Ruto to come for him and stop harassing his family.
He questioned the intent of the officers driving to his son’s place in a Subaru with a South Sudanese number plate and demanding to access the venue and vowed to protect his family at all costs.
This came against the backdrop of the withdrawal of security of the former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
“With technology now, I received a distress call from my son. I watched as they delivered the verbal order, demanding access to recover the alleged gun. No identity, no paperwork, who would believe them? He could not open the gate to strangers. These guns are licensed and in individual’s names,” posed Uhuru.
He continued, “There is a procedure to recover the guns. They should state why they want it and the crime committed. The seniors even went after my security officer who has responded to my son’s distress call.”
He stressed, “As a family, I would not sit and watch my family suffer. I was forced to respond. Even if today my children as in trouble, I will respond.”
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki confirmed the raid and issued a statement after the raid, saying they conducting a search to recover 24 guns in threes residence in Karen.
