Kisii and Nyamira got least number of A’s in 2022 KCSE: CS Machogu
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has once again dismissed claims of cheating during the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, particularly in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
According to Machogu, the two counties actually recorded the least number of Grade A’s in the Nyanza region.
“One common allegation was that out of the 1,146 Grade A’s, 946 were from Kisii. Yet, even a quick glance at the results does not support this portrayal. Contrary to this propaganda, Kisii and Nyamira counties actually had the least number of Grade As in the Nyanza region with 72 followed by Homa Bay and Migori with 62 and Kisumu with 59. Kisii was the second-last county in the region with 51 As while Nyamira was the last county with 30 As. Kiambu topped with 226 As,” he said.
According to the National Assembly Committee on Education, preliminary findings revealed that KNEC itself was allegedly selling its own exams.
The committee chairperson, Julius Melly, said that their engagements with the public, stakeholders, experts, parents, teachers, examiners, and Kenyans, in general, had revealed malpractices in the KCSE examinations of 2022.
