Kindiki: We shall deal with people hiding behind politics to commit crime
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kidiki now says the government will deal with politicians hiding behind politics to commit crimes in the country.
While addressing locals at the volatile Kiserian in Baringo South on Monday, the CS said no one will be allowed to hide under the guise of political rights and the freedom of the Constitution to cause mayhem.
“I want to make it very clear that those hiding behind politics to commit crime have a date with us and the law enforcers,” Kindiki said.
“We are not suffocating any freedom in this country… the constitution allows people to do politics, to disagree in terms of policies, there is nothing wrong with the Opposition doing rallies and meetings which are purely political, but we have a problem with violent riots when property is being destroyed, people being hurt, economy being shut down, public transport paralyzed.”
Last week, Azimio la Umoja conducted three-day protests against the government.
Kindiki said there was a lot of damage, bloodshed, and destruction committed during the protest.
“We’ve heard that they have threatened to go out on a looting spree again on Wednesday. We are ready for them and we will deploy our officers at 1 am and will make sure that no criminal, no looter, hooligan gets his way,” the CS said.
