Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to opposition supporters who plan to stage mass demonstrations on Monday saying that security agencies will not tolerate any acts of violence or incitement during the protests.
Kindiki said that the government respects the right of every person to protest peacefully and unarmed, but anyone who breaks the law will face prosecution.
“For every right or freedom guaranteed in the Constitution, there is a corresponding obligation criminalizing violation of the rights or freedoms of others. Your rights or freedoms end where the rights or freedoms of others start,” Kindiki said.
“In exercise of their rights or freedoms, no one may engage in threats, lawlessness, violence, destruction of property or obstruction of activities of other people or in any other way infringe on the rights or freedoms of other,” he added.
He added that security agencies will protect life and property, maintain law and order, and preserve peace.
The Cabinet Secretary also said that security agencies will prevent unauthorized access to all protected areas in accordance with the law. He urged the public to continue with their normal activities and assured them of their safety.
“It is hereby notified for information of the general public that pursuant to the Protected Areas Act (CAP 204 of the Laws of Kenya), security agencies shall prevent unauthorized access to all protected areas,” he said.
Kindiki also stated that Monday will be a normal working day, and all schools and other educational institutions will operate normally.
