Kindiki to Azimio: Commit to dialogue, stop protests
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has urged the Opposition to commit to peace talks with the government and not return to violent protests.
Speaking in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County at a fundraiser the CS maintained that leaders in opposition must denounce the erroneous acts of loss of lives and destruction of properties that were witnessed during Azimio la Umoja demonstrations in different parts of the nation.
He maintained that no politician from any political party in the country had the right to hold demonstrations that undermine peace and cause massive loss of lives and property.
Embu governor Cecily Mbarire who was present at the event said that the talks must be conducted to address pressing economic issues affecting many Kenyans and not power sharing.
Mbarire who is the chairperson for UDA Party maintained that Raila must vow not to return to Maandamano before commencing the talks.
Her sentiments were echoed by Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi who said that going for nusu mate government would be rewarding political bad manners.
Her sentiments were echoed by Mbeere North Mp Geoffrey Ruku who claimed that Raila was using maandamano to clinch power through the back door, a move he maintained must be rejected by Kenya Kwanza’s side.
He said moving forward, future organisers of demonstrations must foot all losses that will arise from demonstrations through political parties’ allocations noting that would make political players advocate for discipline among their supporters in maintaining peaceful protests.
Runyenjes Mp Muchangi Karemba defended the police from accusations of using excessive force in returning calm in different parts of the country during Azimio La Umoja demonstrations.
Applauding the way the police handled maandamano Karemba stated that the police had the mandate to protect public life and destruction of properties as well as their own lives from unruly armed demonstrators.
