A middle-aged woman from Vipingo in Junju ward, Kilifi County is seeking medical appeal to treat her ailing leg.
which she says was as a result of negligence from .
Speaking at her Vipingo single room in an exclusive interview with the media, Fransiscah Ndinda, the frustrated mother of two said that her leg started as a mere swelling in May this year and upon arriving at the Kilifi county Referral Hospital she underwent a minor surgery.
Subsequently, her leg was wrapped with a nylon paper and left for four days unattended.
Her nightmares began four days after the nylon was eventually removed from the leg which according to her was rotting with maggots as the flesh peeled off, detached from the bone.
She explained that efforts to treat the leg did not bear fruits, as the option left had been to cut it off and that is when she sought for referral to another hospital through the help of her previous company’s (Mombasa Cement) boss.
Although her ex-boss had recommended her to be referred to Coast General Hospital, Ndinda instinctively decided to go to a private hospital from what she explained as fear of public hospitals.
Ndinda had been a plant operator at Mombasa Cement company for several years but at the time her leg started swelling, she had quit work to start her own business.
According to her, she spent all her life savings to clear a bill of Ksh 400,000 that had accumulated in the private hospital as though the leg had not completely healed.
She is now in need of Ksh 100,000 for grafting; a process that the doctors say will bring her back to her feet.
She had left the hospital to ail at home because she could no longer pay the hospital bills.
Ndinda said she is also frustrated that her children who are not able to go to school due to lack of school fees and essential basic needs.
She insists that the only help she needs from Kenyans is the treatment after which she will be able to work on her own to make the ends meet as she used to do before.
The frustrated mother also revealed that her husband left her amidst of her illness despite having no parents who would come in to offer her help.
She is now living at the mercy of a neighbor Florence Pendo, also struggling to put food on the table.
