Kenya Kwanza settles on five for EALA job
President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp has settled on five former MPs for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) job.
The finalists are former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former nominated MP David Ole Sankok, former Nandi Women Representative Zipporah Kering, former URP Secretary General Fred Muteti and former nominated senator Falhada Dekow Iman.
The five were elected by Kenya Kwanza parliamentarians on Wednesday through a secret ballot.
The list will be presented to Parliament on November 17 for election.
‘Pursuant to Rule 15 (1) of the East African Legislative Assembly Elections (Election of Members of the Assembly) Rules, 2017, we, the Presiding Officers, appoint Thursday, 17th November, 2022, as the election day. The elections shall be held at 10.00 a.m. in the National Assembly Chamber and at 9.30 a.m. in the Senate Chamber, respectively, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi,” read a gazette notice by clerks of both houses of parliament.
The coalition led by President William Ruto has five positions to fill in the regional legislative assembly.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has chosen six candidates who will compete for the nine slots allotted to the country in EALA.
Among the six are Timothy Bosire, the party’s treasurer, Winnie Odinga, daughter of Raila Odinga, and businessman Suleiman Shahbal.
Former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito, who lost to ANC candidate Fred Ikana on August 9th, is also included on the list together with Wajir MP Mohamed Diriye and Beatrice Askul, who served on the committee that chose Odinga’s running mate for the elections on August 9.
