Kenya deports 5 Nigerians linked to drug trafficking and cybercrime
Five Nigerian nationals were deported last week by the Immigration Service for involvement in various criminal activities, NTV has learnt.
This is after the five, identified as Olayiwola Saheed Tunde, Nwosu Prince Chukwuebuka, Ajibade Adewale, Nwanonaku Alexander Odirachukwumma and Olayiwola Babatunde Akintomwa, were declared prohibited immigrants and effectively deported to Nigeria on 18 March 2024.
Investigations by the Department of Immigration Services revealed that these foreign nationals were not only in the country illegally, but were also involved in drug trafficking and cybercrime activities.
“Some of the criminals had been involved in credit card fraud and sale of drugs within Nairobi’s estates, while others were arrested in possession of forged documents, fake passports and fake dollars,” a copy of the document held by the Immigration services stated.
The investigation also revealed that some of the same criminals had been declared persona non grata and deported to Nigeria in 2023, but somehow managed to sneak back into the country through dubious means.
“They had become nuisance to the public, and to us, as law enforcement,” an immigration officer privy to the matter stated.
Authorities have also uncovered how the aforementioned West Africans involved in drug trafficking find their way to neighbouring Tanzania and coordinate drug shipments into Kenya through their Kenyan counterparts after being deported to Nigeria.
Mr Saheed, Alexander, Ajibade and Babatunde were deported after investigations revealed that they were not only drug traffickers but also illegal residents in Kenya. Mr Prince, however, was sent back to his country after being arrested with a counterfeit US $1 million, 11 forged Nigerian passports and three forged Kenyan passports.
