KDF takes over facelift of 4 stadia for Africa Cup of Nation bid
Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba will hand over four stadiums to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for upgrading to international standards as the country joins its East African neighbours in the Pamoja Bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The stadiums to be handed over for upgrading are Nyayo, Kasarani, Kipchoge Keino and Talanta Sports City at Jamhuri grounds.
Talanta Sports Stadium was handed over at 9:00am, Nyayo Stadium will be handed over at 10:30am, Kasarani Stadium at 11:30am and Kipchoge Keino Stadium at 2:00pm.
KDF is expected to manage the renovation and development of the four stadiums in preparation for the announcement of the countries that will host the 2027 Afcon. The announcement will be made on 27 September.
Kenya is bidding to co-host the football championship with Uganda and Tanzania. There are also individual bids from Algeria, Botswana and Egypt.
Speaking on NTV’s Kigoda Chako show hosted by Fredrick Muitiri, Ababu Namwamba said he’s sure the Pamoja Bid will be acknowledged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“I believe our bid to host Afcon alongside Uganda and Tanzania is going to be successful, “Ababu stated.
