KCPE results out, top candidate scores 431 marks

The best candidate in this year’s Standard Eight examinations received 431 marks out of a possible 500, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

CS Machogu stated on Wednesday, December 21, at the release of the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were an improvement from the 2021 exam where the best candidate got 428 marks.

In a departure from tradition, CS Machogu did not name the top candidates.

According to the Ministry, out of the 1,233,852 candidates, 9,443 of them scored between the mark range of 400 and 500.

307,756 pupils scored between 200 and 299 marks with  619,593 candidates scoring between 100 and 199 marks.

724 candidates scored between 1 and 99 marks.

Machogu announced that female candidates performed better than their male counterparts in English, Kiswahili, and Kenyan Sign Language.

Male candidates performed better than their female counterparts in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, and Religious Education.

The KCPE Examination results will be collected by respective schools from the Sub County Education offices.

“Candidates should therefore collect their results from their respective examination centres. Individual candidates’ results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number followed by the initials KCPE through a Short Message Service (SMS) to 20076,” said Machogu.

According to the Education CS, 252 candidates in nine examination centres were determined to have committed misconduct.

These candidates have received zero points in the subjects in which they engaged in malpractice; however, the affected candidates’ overall mark will be computed less the point awarded in the relevant subject.

“The candidate will receive their examination results and will transition to secondary school. This is in the spirit of the 100 per cent transition policy, said Machogu.

There were 1,244,188 candidates who enrolled for the exam. The tests were given from November 28 to November 30.

This is the second-to-last edition of the KCPE exams before the 8-4-4 education system is totally phased out of the primary school curriculum the following year.
