KCB Foundation invests KES 700M in Education: Commissions 2023 scholarship class
KCB Foundation has commissioned its 2023 scholarship class, granting educational opportunities to 1,000 students from underprivileged backgrounds.
The Foundation’s 16th cohort of the annual education scholarship program will see 220 students from Western Kenya join various secondary schools next week, bringing the total number of sponsored students to 4,558.
100 slots have been allocated to persons with disabilities, while 500 slots have been set aside for girls.
KCB has invested KES 700 million in the education of the 16th cohort, covering tuition fees, uniforms, transport, set books, and mentorship and psychosocial support for the next four years of secondary and tertiary education.
Japheth Achola, the KCB Group Human Resource Director, spoke during the commissioning ceremony and emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to providing education to vulnerable and marginalized learners.
“Our commitment stems from our strong belief that it is every child’s right to access quality education, which is a powerful tool of transformation in society. We have also incorporated a wholesome psycho-social support system to ensure the students receive mentorship and guidance,” he said.
Upon completion of their secondary education, all 1,000 students will receive 100% school-fee support through the KCB tertiary scholarship program.
They will also participate in a three-month apprenticeship program at KCB branches across the country, gaining valuable work experience before joining institutions of higher learning under the KCB education scholarship.
“We intentionally seek out vulnerable and marginalized learners at risk of dropping out of school completely. This includes learners facing difficulties from orphanhood, disability, or harmful cultural practices as well as gender or disability and areas with high poverty indexes,” Achola added.
The KCB Foundation’s 2023 scholarship class marks a significant investment in the education and future of 1,000 students from underprivileged backgrounds, providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed.
